What is High Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a form of fat that is carried through the body. You have your LDL- Low-density lipoproteins that can lead to a build up of cholesterol in the arteries. We refer to this as “bad” Cholesterol. A good goal is to keep your LDL level uner 100 mg/dl.
HDL- High-density lipoproteins are known as “good” cholesterol. It helps remove bad cholesterol from your body, so the higher your HDL level is the lower your risk is for heart disease. A woman should have her HDL over 50 mg/dl and a man should have his HDL over 40 mg/dl.
Triglycerides are also a type of fat in the blood. It can raise your risk for heart attack or stroke. A good goal is to keep your level lower than 150 mg/dl.
